Tankless Water Heater Installation Tips
Gas Piping:
Most tankless heaters require a 3/4-inch gas line. The average
tank-type heater normally uses ½-inch supply lines. Adapting the
existing 1/2-inch supply line to the tankless heater will choke the
fuel supply and limit the water heater output. If the heater's
Installation Manual says "3/4-inch supply line," that means all the
way back to the gas pressure regulator.
A small safety override regulator on the gas inlet is located on
most of these heaters. This is a back up for as well as an addition
to your standard regulator at the tank or gas entrance. This
secondary regulator is the means for adjusting gas flow at higher
altitudes. The gas inlet is located at the bottom center for all
tankless heaters.
